Despite his brilliant success at Brighton & Hove Albion, Graham Potter has endured a horror start to life at Stamford Bridge. The 47-year-old joined Chelsea in September but has only won five matches in the Premier League since.

Even Todd Boehly’s excessive spending on the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Noni Madueke hasn’t helped the Blues’ form improve, enduring two defeat and two draws in all competitions since the January transfer window slammed shut. There has since been plenty of debate over whether Potter is the man for the job in West London, while others have argued that they may be in a transitioning period as they continue to rebuild their squad.

Here is the latest on Potter’s job status...

Insider update on Potter

While Chelsea sit tenth in the Premier League, The Telegraph’s Matt Law has reported that the feeling inside of the club is that the former Brighton boss needs at least one pre-season before his job can be judged. The owners believe that Potter walked into a team with plenty of problems and he needs to be given time to iron out the issues and build the squad how he wants it.

Potter moved to Stamford Bridge only a couple of months into the season and was given a big job to do, with many fans split on the decision to sack Thomas Tuchel. He now has a high number of new faces - all from around the world - to adapt to his new playing style and to life in one of the toughest leagues on the planet. The report claims that the club believe Potter was ‘brave’ to take up the job and in turn should be handed a longer opportunity at the helm.

Arsenal influence

Another reason why Todd Boehly could allow Potter to remain at the club is due to the success of both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Neither Jurgen Klopp or Mikel Arteta were able to get their respective teams off to an immediate start when they joined but have gone onto impress. Klopp joined Liverpool in October 2015 and went onto finish eighth, before finishing in the top four every season since and also winning the Premier League title in 2020, as well as the Champions League the season before. Meanwhile, Arteta failed to claim a top four spot last season but the Gunners currently sit top of the league table after a brilliant campaign so far.

The Evening Standard have now claimed Chelsea are willing to hold back from sacking the Blues boss as they understand that it will take time to rebuild and get rid of the dead wood like their Premier League rivals. The London outfit have so far welcomed 16 players and parted ways with a further eleven since Todd Boehly arrived in England last year.
