Brighton and Hove Albion star Pascal Gross has backed former manager Graham Potter to turn things around at Stamford Bridge and have a successful spell there.

Potter has endured a difficult start to life as Chelsea boss and returned to London this morning after another defeat, this time a 1-0 loss to Dortmund in the Champions League despite his team largely playing very well.

The 47-year-old English manager faces the biggest challenge of his managerial career having only won just the nine of all the 23 games he’s been in charge as Chelsea boss.

His start to life at Stamford Bridge has shades of how things got off for him in the south Coast, he struggled to win games but eventually found his feet and transforming a team that was always fighting relegation to a mid-table team in the Premier League.

Gross, who enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Potter says he’s not surprised his former manager is taking his time to bed in- but was certain he’d be laughing again soon.

The midfielder told Kicker in Germany: “Many are surprised that he has such problems with the Blues in the Premier League, but I think you just have to give him time.”

“[Potter is] a good coach, he will manage, I am sure of that. [He] is a coach for whom the human aspect is important.

“He doesn’t want to neglect a single player, which of course is not easy in such a squad and with many personalities in the dressing room.

“He is very keen on harmony, but ultimately there will always be hardship cases and unhappy players at Chelsea. I think Potter will rotate as often as he can to try and get everyone involved.”

Under Potter, the Blues have crashed out of the FA Cup and the League Cup and are 10th on the league table, 10 points behind fourth placed Newcastle United.
