Manchester United and Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Mason Mount’s contract situation at Chelsea, LondonWorld.com has been told.

The England star’s current deal will come to an end next summer and even though his first option is to stay at Stamford Bridge, both the player and the club are said to still be miles off agreeing a new deal.

Mount is widely reported to be on £80,000-a-week wages- but wants to move into around £250,000-a-week, same as Reece James who has recently signed a new five year deal.

Chelsea is aware that Mount is attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, both clubs will be in the market for a midfielder in the summer.

Chelsea want him to stay and are willing to significantly pump his wages. What they want in return though is for him to sign the kind of long-term deal that the likes of Wesley Fofana and Mykhailo Mudryk have signed.

This season, the 24-year-old has been in and out of form but same can be said of a lot of the Chelsea players as manager Graham Potter attempts to get the best out of them after taking over from Thomas Tuchel.

Talks are expected to continue but there is a feeling that with the player attracting interest from fellow Premier League clubs and Chelsea dragging their feet over meeting his demands, this summer could be an interesting one for the two parties.

Chelsea have won only nine of their last 23 games in all competitions- and have crashed out of both the FA Cup and League Cup despite spending almost £300 million on new players this winter. They take on Southampton in at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
