QPR handed 'magnificent' late injury boost ahead of Crystal Palace cup tie

Marti Cifuentes had been forced to take the midfielder off early at the weekend.

QPR have been handed a significant boost in their hopes of overturning Premier League opposition Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup this evening with news that midfielder Sam Field is fit to feature for the side.

The ever-influential 26-year-old, who signed a new contract with the R's in March, had to be taken off at half-time against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend and was a doubt going into the midweek action against the Eagles. Speaking after the draw at Hillsborough, Marti Cifuentes said the player had felt 'dizzy' during the fixture.

Field, who is known for both his defensive and attacking influence in the centre of the park, would have been a big miss for QPR against Crystal Palace. Cifuentes had said: “Sam was feeling dizzy. He is a warrior and he tried his best to make it through to half-time, he needed to come off and rest up."

However, in an update shared on the QPR official website on Monday, it was confirmed that Field would be available for the cup tie. His early substitution was put down to 'illness' rather than anything injury-induced.

Field has started every league game so far this season having finished the 2023/24 campaign in fine form. The midfielder scored four goals from March as the relegation battle kicked in and was hailed for his 'magnificent' impact by Cifuentes.

The QPR boss has hinted that he will make changes with the fixtures coming thick and fast. The Championship outfit have a meeting with Millwall this weekend.

Cifuentes said: “They have shown me in training that I can trust all of them. It has been proved already this season. It is always good for the team when fresh legs come in during a period like this.

“I am pretty sure we are going to see some new faces compared to the game we played on Saturday but, at the same time, keeping the same identity and idea on how we want to play football.”

QPR will be without Jake Clarke-Salter, Liam Morrison, Morgan Fox and Ilias Chair for the cup tie against Crystal Palace.
