Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement with Benfica for the signing of Enzo Fernandez. The Blues are now looking to push through the deal before the end of the transfer window.

According to a reporter Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (see below), both clubs are ‘running’ to get documents signed in time.

Fernandez, 22, would become the most expensive player in Premier League history to date if the transfer is completed in time. He caught the eye playing at the World Cup earlier this winter and helped Argentina win the trophy.

The former River Plate man has a release clause of £105.6m which Chelsea have matched. Complications of a move earlier today were believed to be caused by structure of payments of that fee, which Romano claims have now been resolved.

Graham Potter’s side have spent big money this month and will be hoping their flurry of new additions can all gel together. It has been a tough season for the London club and they are under pressure to turn it around in the second-half of the campaign.

Fernandez will inject quality into their ranks if they can get the move done and he will provide them with more competition in the heart of midfield. Chelsea let Jorginho leave for Arsenal earlier today.
