Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko will not be joining Lyon before the transfer deadline. The once-capped France international has seen a return to Ligue 1 fall through.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at AC Milan in Serie A but is struggling for opportunities in Italy. He was looking to move on before the end of this window but has been dealt a setback now.

Bakayoko, who has been on the books at Chelsea since they signed him from AS Monaco in 2017, has also held talks with Cremonese recently. However, he won’t be going there either.

His agent Federico Pastorello has told Sky Sport Italia (via Siempre Milan):

“Unfortunately he didn’t have the opportunity to join Cremonese due to a series of problems. Lyon? I think not, a somewhat complex situation due to some problems due to the termination of the loan between Chelsea and Milan… It’s a somewhat complex situation and times are limited for the change of club.”

Bakayoko has played 43 times for the Blues in all competitions since joining. He has also had loan stints away at Monaco and Napoli but his current stint at the San Siro isn’t working out.

In other Chelsea news, midfielder Jorginho has completed his switch to Arsenal. His contract was up at the end of the season.
