Bayer Leverkusen are said to be very interested in bringing the Swiss star to Germany after a season in which the player has transformed himself from a wantaway bad boy to a key cog in the Gunners' wheel.

German newspaper BILD reported that the Bundesliga side are keen to bring the player, who is valued at €15 million, to work under Xabi Alonso who has outlined 'mentality' and 'energy' as key necessities during the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal's path to signing Barcelona forward and former Leeds United Raphinha has become easier after Newcastle United confirmed they would not be pursuing the Brazilian this summer.

That's according to The Telegraph, who report that recent meetings at St James' Park led to transfer lists being finalised and Raphinha was nowhere to be seen as The Magpies focus attention elsewhere.

Arsenal had also been linked with the star, who has 10 goals and 11 assists for the Catalan giants this season, with transfer chief Edu said to have been in frequent contact over a potential Raphinha deal.
