We’re well into October now and with the evenings getting even shorter, it’s understandable to not want to venture too far from home.

Rumfest

ILEC Conference Centre, Earls Court October 16 & 17 Tickets £30

Following 2020’s successful virtual event, RumFest returns this year in person as part of London Rum Week. Event highlights include tastings, exhibitions, seminars and demonstrations from both new and established distillers and blenders from the world of rum.

Guests will also enjoy Carnival Time, with live music and dancing, and exciting food traders will complete the line-up, offering delicious snacks and meals as well as food and rum pairing masterclasses

The week will culminate with The Spiced Rum Show on 17th October at Night Tales in Hackney, shining a light on the new breed of spiced expressions from across the rum-making world.

Sebastião Salgado, winner of the 2021 Praemium Imperiale award for painting, presents Amazônia, a series of breath-taking photographs that celebrate the indigenous peoples and varied landscapes of the Brazilian rainforest.

For seven years, Salgado worked with twelve different indigenous communities to create this magnificent photography project. The result is over 200 powerful black-and-white photographs that uncover Salgado’s vision of the Amazon when the forest is approaching a crucial tipping point in the fight against climate change.

Metamorphoses

Shakespeare’s Globe Til October 30 Tickets £5 to £49

Metamorphoses is a playful new piece of theatre inspired by the Roman poet Ovid’s collection of myths written by the Globe’s first writers-in-residence in nearly four centuries.

The writers, Sami Ibrahim, Laura Lomas and Sabrina Mahfou, have used Ovid’s 2,000-year-old stories to explore the power of transformation, the resilience of humans and the wonder of life.

Expect anarchy, shape shifting and a burning chariot of fire.

The Film Shed, Dalston October 15 to 17 Tickets £5 (includes entry, drink and pizza)

Vegan pizzeria Purezza and Samsung have collaborated to create the UK’s first urban farm-to-table pizzeria in Dalston.

Visitors can explore futuristic domes, grow fresh vegetables powered by Samsung connected technology and then harvest their own veggies on the go, which will be used to top a vegan pizza at the end of the exhibition.
