Manchester City are set to resume their interest in West Ham United superstar Lucas Paqueta in the summer transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider.

City put forth an £80 million bid for the Brazilian in the summer of 2023 - a deal was agreed between the two parties 'in principle', but the transfer ultimately fell through - Paqueta was understood to be 'deeply unhappy' that the move did not come to fruition. During talks, Paqueta was under investigation from the FA regarding alleged betting rule breaches - since then, however, they have yet to officially charge the player.

Paqueta joined the Irons in 2022 from Lyon for an undisclosed - but believed to be a 'club record' - fee. Since then, he has played in 50 Premier League games for West Ham, scoring seven goals. He has also impressed on the international stage for Brazil, scoring ten goals across 44 caps.

Should West Ham allow Lucas Paqueta to move to Manchester City in the summer?

Paqueta is one of the Hammers' top players - not only is he an excellent central midfielder, he can also perform admirably on the wings and as an out-and-out striker. So far this season, the 26-year-old has scored three goals and has notched up five assists over the course of 22 Premier League appearances.

The Brazilian is undoubtedly a key player in West Ham's squad - but £80 million is perhaps too good of an offer to reject. Their recruitment has been solid over the last couple of years - it seems likely that they would be able to replace him if the Irons allow Paqueta to leave for such a lofty fee.

Many worried for West Ham's future after the sale of Declan Rice - however, they have grown from strength to strength since his departure.
