Declan Rice scored a superb solo goal as West Ham saw off Gent in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night. The England international ran half the length of the pitch before sliding the ball past the goalkeeper to help his side win 4-1 on the night at the London Stadium and 5-2 on aggregrate.

The Hammers are now in the semi-final of the competition as they look to win some silverware this season. A clash against Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar awaits in the final four.

Rice, 24, is under contract at West Ham until the summer of 2024. He has been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United ahead of the next transfer window.

Moyes wasn’t surprised by his goal against Gent and said afterwards: “If anybody didn’t think he could do that, they are completely naïve and don’t watch us close enough. He is some player. That is why we value him so highly. It was a Roy of the Rovers-type goal.

“He has so many parts to his game, he doesn’t always show them. He has a good personality but he could show it even more.

“His experiences with England have been huge. I can see him when he comes back, he has grown quicker and bigger, getting a chance to work alongside the quality of players they have got, and a great coaching staff, will do Declan the world of good.”

Rice has risen up through the academy at West Ham and has become a key player for the Premier League side over recent years. He made his debut back in 2017 and has since made 235 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 13 goals to date.

His immediate focus will be on helping his current club stay up this term and win their first European trophy since 1999 when they won the old UEFA Intertoto Cup. His long-term future continues to be up in the air though.
