Tottenham interest in Premier League midfielder 'intensifies' as Fabrizio Romano issues 'working' update

All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Tottenham as they prepare for Europa League action.

Tottenham are now just a matter of hours away from their Europa League clash with Hoffenheim. Spurs are currently in the play-off spots, and given the number of injuries they have, they will be desperate to climb into the automatic spots to skip a round in the competition.

In the meantime, the search continues for new signings to help Ange Postecoglou deal with the ongoing injury crisis, although there are a couple of key players back in training. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Spurs.

Buonanotte interest

Spurs are said to be keen on signing Brighton midfielder Facundo Buonanotte, who has impressed on loan with strugglers Leicester City. Fichajes say Tottenham are pushing in a bid to land an agreement before the end of the current transfer window.

The 20-year-old is a versatile midfielder, and it would be a surprise if Brighton were to move to sell him. It’s claimed Spurs are long-time admirers of the Argentine, and that their interest could ‘intensify’ in the coming days.

Striker search

Tottenham are working to sign a striker to supplement the front line due to injuries suffered by Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who told GiveMeSport: “For sure, it has to be one forward, because they need a player in that position, so working on the opportunities.

“At the moment, still nothing concrete in public, but also in this case, I'm sure in private, they're working on it, and as soon as possible, we will keep you posted.”

Porro defends Ange

Spurs star Pedro Porro has dismissed claims that Postecoglou’s training could be a factor in the number injuries at the club. “We have a plan for all of our training,” he told football.london. “Those players who aren’t playing so much have their own plan to come back and me too, I train at the club but I also do my own work outside the club, recovery work, prevention of injury.

“Everyone has their own schedule, if the training sessions are less intense it’s for those players coming back, they have the training they need, and also for the players who are playing, we need a lot of recovery. I think it’s crazy, when you have too many players injured, the situation for the team and the club, it’s a difficult time. This is football, now we focus on recovery and the players will come back stronger.

“It’s a bad situation because when you have all the back four (defenders and goalkeeper out), seniors, it’s a bad situation. I think it’s incredible that I am 25 [and I’m the oldest], but I have been here two years now and every game I push with everything on the pitch.”
