Tottenham handed £110m injury boost in behind-the-scenes clip as Liverpool clash looms large

Spurs could book a place in the Carabao Cup final with a win over Liverpool at the start of February.

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a much-needed triple injury boost ahead of a jam-packed fixture schedule with Radu Dragusin, Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero all seen in training with the first team squad today.

PA reporter George Sessions took to social media platform X to share a clip of the Spurs session as the players warmed up. The three defenders were all taking part in the training.

Ange Postecoglou's side have just come out the other side of a hectic festive fixture period but the matches continue to come thick and fast. Spurs travel to Hoffenheim on Thursday evening before hosting Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday. There's then Europa League action against IF Elfsborg next Thursday in North London and a trip to Brentford the following weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur close to triple injury boost

Tottenham Hotspur then travel to Liverpool in Carabao Cup semi-final action in what could be the biggest fixture of the season so far. Spurs hold a 1-0 advantage over the Merseyside outfit thanks to a Lucas Bergvall strike in the first leg earlier this month.

Should Postecoglou's side hold on to that advantage at Anfield, the Aussie boss will book a place in the Carabao Cup final and face either Newcastle United or Arsenal on March 16. It would be the club's first chance for silverware since winning the League Cup in 2008.

Hopes of beating Liverpool at the start of February are boosted by the imminent return of Dragusin, Van de Ven and Romero. Tottenham have been without key defensive stars for large parts of the season, leaving the likes of midfielder Archie Gray having to fill in at the back.

Dragusin came off at half-time against Everton with an injury after taking a blow to his face via the elbow of a Toffees player in the first half. The player needed four stitches following the collision with Dominic Calvert-Lewin but is not set to miss any matches.

Meanwhile, Van de Ven and Romero have been long term absentees. The former has not played since December 8 against Chelsea and the latter has been out of action since the same fixture.

Ange Postecoglou refuses to blame injuries for Spurs form

Tottenham Hotspur have invested heavily in their defence in recent years, making the injury blows even more crushing. Van de Ven arrived in London from Wolfsburg for £43 million in 2023 with £42 million spent on Romero in 2021 to recruit him from Atalanta. Dragusin came to Spurs for £27 million in January 2024.

Speaking about the injury crisis this month, Postecoglou refused to blame his team's poor form on the number of players on the treatment table. He said: "I have never played the victim. At the end of the day, I still believe the responsibility lies with me to get this right and that is where I sit with things. Whatever the circumstances are and it is fair to say it is a challenging situation for sure a lot of it is out of your control as a manager when you lose the amount of players we are at the moment.

“But I still have to steer us through and if I start worrying about myself and the cards I have been dealt with it is a dereliction of my duty and my responsibility. It is not how I see it. I see it as these are the cards I have been dealt and it is up to me to get us out of it and I have to be good enough to do that."
