Antonio Conte is reportedly pursuing Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, in a shock move.

The former Sunderland man joined Everton for £30 million in 2017 - a world record transfer for a ‘keeper at the time - but has made his fair share of mistakes on Merseyside and could be joining the white half of North London soon.

Hugo Lloris’ limitations when trying to play out from the back could be an indication as to why Conte could replace Lloris, as he looks to impose his style of play on Spurs.

Goalkeepers have come and gone during Lloris’ time, but none have come close to replace France’s world cup-winning skipper.

The signing of Pierluigi Gollini has been the closest someone has come to knocking the world champion off his pedestal.

Conte has always earned praise for his talent and getting the best from home-grown players at a club.

Victor Moses enjoyed his most fruitful season under Conte at Chelsea, whilst Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni also enjoyed great seasons at Inter Milan en route to a Serie A title.

This signing does seem to make sense for Tottenham.

It would free up a foreign spot for their squad registration, adding to their homegrown quota.

It would also replace an aging player, with the veteran turning 35 next month.

Pickford is only 27, so, as a goalkeeper, isn’t even near his prime.

Pickford shone during Euro 2020, which saw him claim the most clean sheets in the entire tournament.

He has a big presence in a dressing room, fitting in with fellow English players such as Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Eric Dier, would also be pros for signing the Mackem.

Everton reportedly want to recoup the money the splashed on Pickford back in 2017, but Tottenham’s lack of spending in recent transfer windows, plus Levy’s promise to financially back Conte means this deal could easily be struck.
