This practice is not new to the Italian manager, who has made it his stock in trade to monitor every little detail about his players.

In his previous job at Inter Milan, this included the how many times the players are allowed to have sex, and in what position they should copulate to enhance performance and avoid potential injury.

Conte advised his players against having sex for long periods in the season, which is proof of how much he invests into his players’ physical conditioning.

His former captain at Chelsea John Terry recently revealed he was in the best shape of his life during the Italian’s successful spell at Stamford Bridge.

He argues that redesigning the menu at Hotspur Way is one of the ways he can get players firing and reaching their utmost potential.

The new Tottenham manager said: “I think that I consider a good nutrition and attitude very, very important for the player.

“It is not only important in training or the game.

“I think you have to prepare yourself in the best possible way.

“I consider sleep very important, and eating well is very important.

“I consider good nutrition very important because these two aspects bring the player to recover quickly.

"If you have this type of situation in the right way you can recover quickly, you are ready to work, also sometimes to work very hard, and also to avoid injuries.

“To be professional it means to have all of these situations in your mind.

"Obviously I also like to speak about good nutrition. I spoke with the nutritionist.

“For sure we are going step by step. We want to improve every aspect of my players.

"Usually when I start to work with players maybe at the start someone can’t understand something like this [banning ketchup and fizzy drinks], but then when they start to understand they don’t go away from this road.

“In Chelsea, I did exactly the same. We spoke about good food, to eat well. This is a must, in every club I have had a nutritionist.

“This aspect is important because you have to stay the right weight. You have to have good fat and good muscle.

“But this is a part of our work, and the players’ work.

“To be professional means you have to take care of your body.

“If you do this you risk less injury, and you are ready to face the training because sometimes the training is hard.”

The Italian manager is expected to receive a hero’s welcome when his side take to the pitch on Sunday against Leeds, in what will be Conte’s first league game in-front of the Tottenham Hotspur fans.
