How Tottenham Hotspur's starting XI could look after the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a strong start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, despite the doubts cast by many following Harry Kane's summer departure. Spurs enjoyed a fruitful transfer window themselves and while some players — including marquee signing James Maddison — have suffered injuries, the new year promises the return of an almost full strength squad as they fight their way up the table.

Ahead of the January window, a lot of rumours have been circling Spurs. We've taken a look at the recent winter links and pieced together what Ange Postecoglou's starting 11 could look like if the rumours come to fruition.

Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario

Summer signing Vicario has stepped up to the plate with the vision to usurp Hugo Lloris as Tottenham's first choice goalkeeper. It's highly unlikely Postecoglou will look to change anything up between the sticks.

Right-back: Pedro Porro

After joining the club full-time in the summer, Porro has continued to impress at right-back and has contributed six assists so far this season. The Spaniard will be enjoying his starting spot moving forward.

Centre-back: Jean-Clair Todibo

Spurs have been linked to Todibo as they look to bring in reinforcements at the back. Premier League rivals Manchester United are also in the running for the 23-year-old but an interesting update on Nice owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's stance has emerged. Despite his links to a United takeover, he will reportedly not stand in Todibo's way to join Spurs in January.

Centre-back: Micky van de Ven

Spurs will be eager to get summer signing van de Ven back from injury in the new year. The centre-back is expected to return later on in January and he could edge out Christian Romero for a place back in the starting lineup. However, there are other targets also on radar so the January window could be an interesting one to monitor for Spurs.

Left-back: Destiny Udogie

Apart from two missed occasions due to injury and a suspension, rising star Udogie has started every Premier League match for Spurs this season. He is expected to continue shining in his role since returning from loan.

Centre midfield: Conor Gallagher

Chelsea are reportedly willing to listen to January offers for Gallagher, with Spurs one of the interested parties. The North London outfit 'had the principles of a deal in place' during the summer, but their rivals did not want to sell up. Now, he is entering the final 18 months of his contract and he could be moved on to add funds to the pot.

Centre midfield: Pape Sarr

Sarr's game has seriously improved under Postecoglou this season and he has been a regular in the engine room. He typically partners Yves Bissouma, but due to the Mali international's habit of picking up card suspensions this season, Sarr may get the nod ahead of him.

Attacking midfield: James Maddison

Maddison wasted no time in contributing to the goals for his new club and everyone will be itching to have him back in the starting lineup. He is expected to return from injury in January and he will make a very welcome return.

Right wing: Dejan Kulusevski

Kulusevski has wowed fans with his performances so far in the Premier League, already proving to be a key player for Spurs. The versatile winger has five goals and two assists on the tally so far and we can expect to see more in 2024.

Left wing: Brennan Johnson

After splashing out more than £47 million on Johnson in the summer window, it would be a shame for Spurs not to give the impressive young talent time to unleash his full potential. The 22-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance so far this season, he just needs to kick into the next gear to become more prolific in front of goal.

Centre-forward: Heung-min Son

After setting the league alight mostly as a wide player to support Kane over the years, Son is now on fire as a No.9. The Spurs skipper has 10 goals and four assists this season and is only expected to bag even more in the new year.
