Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for a defender who currently plays for bitter rivals Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur could make a shocking swoop in the January transfer window - they have been linked with a move for Chelsea academy product Trevoh Chalobah. This is according to a report from TEAMtalk, who also mention that Crystal Palace are keen to bring him on board. Previously, Nottingham Forest were thought to have submitted a bid for the player in the summer, but their advances were rejected.

Chalobah is not the only player that Chelsea have recently put up for sale ahead of January. They are also reportedly willing to let go of Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen, Malang Sarr, Marc Cucurella and team captain Conor Gallagher. The Sierra Leone native has yet to appear for Chelsea in any capacity this season due to a thigh injury. Currently, it is unclear when he will be fit to play again - if it is not soon, he may struggle to pass a medical should he be the subject of a transfer move.

What will Trevoh Chalobah bring to Tottenham Hotspur?

Currently, Spurs are in the hunt for a new defender. They have been short of options at the back this season, losing several of their central defenders to either injury or suspension. Postecoglou wants to bring 'two or three' new signings to the club in January - and Chalobah could be one of them.

This lack of depth has been a major contributing factor towards their slide down the table after such a promising start to the campaign. Bringing Chalobah to North London would be a great way to fix this issue for several reasons. Not only is the 24-year-old more than capable of holding his own in the Premier League, he is also very adaptable. His preferred position is at centre-back, but he's also able to function as a right-back and as a defensive midfielder when called upon to do so.
