Spurs chairman Daniel Levy revealed it was Postecoglous’s style of football and what he represents that made him the ideal candidate to lead Spurs into the new era of brilliant-attacking football that Spurs fans crave.

But club legend Ledley Kings told Football.London, that fans will first have to get behind the manager and afford him enough time to be able to bed in his ideas and transform the club.

He is quoted: “He’s signed a big, long contract. We know that his style of football is different from what we’ve been playing so we need to give him time to get his thoughts and messages across to the players.

“I’ve got no doubt that we will give him time because his methods and his style is something that suits us and suits the type of players we have.

“There’s not too much patience in football. It seems nowadays that after two or three bad results any manager is under pressure but we’ve brought him in for the long term. He’s got a long-term contract.

“I urge the fans to give him a bit of time. He’s new to the Premier League as well and it’ll take a little bit of time to get his thoughts across. I’m just glad that he’s got pre-season from the first day and that will hopefully make a difference.”

Tottenham finished eighth in the Premier League this season, the first time since 2010 that they will be without any kind of European football, but the arrival of Postecoglou is expected to herald a new start and get the team back to competing with the best teams in the country.
