Tottenham have confirmed once again that Cristian Stellini will take charge of first team duties after manager Antonio Conte stayed back in Italy to fully recover from his gallbladder operation.

The Italian manager was desperate to be on the touchline days after undergoing the surgery and only missed the 1-0 win over Manchester City because medics had advised him against returning too soon.

He was however back in England days after and travelled with the team to the King Power over the weekend, before preparing the team and taking them to the San Siro for the first leg tie against AC Milan.

Spurs fans adore the Italian manager as he’s punched above his weight and squeezed water out of a stone since he took over the side. He’s qualified them for Champions League despite taking over the team when they were almost mid-table and hadn’t won in three games.

Tottenham are also still in the hunt for top four football again next season and can make it to the last eight of the Champions League this year if they can turn around a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in March.

The style of football has been questioned by a section of the fan base but there is no doubting that he’s made them a much better side than when he first took over.

Cristian Stellini has a 100% winning record as a stand-in manager and the club will hope that he’s able to get all three points when the Hammers visit north London this weekend.

Tottenham club statement:

Following a routine post-operation check in Italy yesterday, Antonio Conte will remain at his family home to recover from his recent surgery.

Health is the most important consideration and everyone at the Club wishes him well. Cristian Stellini will assume First Team duties.
