Tottenham narrowly lost 1-0 to AC Milan in the first leg of their Champions League encounter to set up an intriguing second leg match in north London in March.

Former Manchester City starlet Brahim Díaz scored the only goal of the game early on, finishing off a brilliant move despite Fraser Forster’s best efforts to prevent it.

The goals brought the best out of Tottenham with Kane setting up Kulusevksi mid-way through the first half but Ciprian Tatarusanu was equal to the task in post for Milan.

Both teams created chances in the second half with Milan missing two chances to extend their lead, the Italians seeing out what was their first ever win against Tottenham in the Champions League.

Ahead of the game all the talk had been about the injuries to Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg also suspended for the first leg, Oliver Skipp starting his first Champions League game and the young Matar Sarr making his Champions League debut both gave a good account of themselves.

The Senegal international, particularly impressing with his passing range and intelligence off the ball. Tottenham manager Antonio Conte returning to the San Siro would have been delighted with the effort of his team given most had written them off due to their performance against Leicester over the weekend and injuries to their key stars.

Tottenham will be without Eric Dier for the second leg, he picked up his fifth yellow card and will now miss the game in London but Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will return and possible some injured players.
