"He isn't a Tottenham player" - Forward branded "not good enough" for Spurs by former scout

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking ahead to the summer transfer window in order to improve their squad after what has been a poor season under Ange Postecoglou.
They sit 13th in the Premier League table, having been eliminated from every competition apart from the Europa League, which is Postecoglou’s only hope of a trophy in his second season.

However, they have one attacker who is due to leave the club, according to reports, he has been criticised by a former Spurs scout.
Timo Werner “not good enough” for Tottenham
Former Chelsea attacker Timo Werner joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in Germany in January 2024, and his loan deal is due to expire at the end of this season.
Tottenham had agreed an £8.5 million option to buy in his deal with the club, however, reports emerged last month that they are going to decline the option and send him back to the Bundesliga.

Former Spurs scout Bryan King has said that the club were right to decline his buy option. He told Tottenham News: “I think he will be part of the squad until the end of the season.
“That is the agreement that Spurs have with Leipzig. However, I’m quite pleased that Spurs have made this decision, I would have made the decision in the winter transfer window.
“He certainly isn’t going to be a miss for me, he isn’t a Tottenham player, he never has been. He is not good enough for the club. Therefore, I would imagine he will remain as a squad player until the loan is finished.”

Mathys Tel could fill Werner’s squad spot next season
Tottenham are set to let Werner leave, meaning that Postecoglou may be keen to make sure he has depth up front next season.
They signed Bayern attacker Mathys Tel on loan in the January transfer window in what was the story of deadline day. He has a £45 million option to buy in his contract which Tottenham could activate at the end of the season.
The 19-year-old has struggled so far, making three Premier League appearances without a goal for Postecoglou’s side.

“He’s a hard worker...he’s doing the things that we need him to do at the moment. He may not be getting the goals and the accolades, but he’s certainly contributing.”
Tel’s deal with the club expires in June, when Postecoglou will have a decision to make on whether to keep him in North London permanently or let him return to Bayern Munich.
