Tottenham are increasingly confident that defender Micky van de Ven might not need to undergo surgery to correct his hamstring according to a report on the Evening Standard.

The defender who was signed from German side Wolfsburg hurt his hamstring after sprinting for a ball in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.

He suffered a similar injury when he was with the German side that needed around 10 weeks to heal but Spurs are hoping that he might not need that long to heal and will look for a way instead of going through the knife.

What does remain unclear is how long he will be out with tough games against Wolves and Astonton Villa on the horizon.

Spurs will also be without Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero the two players who were sent off in the Chelsea defeat and will now rely on the previously sidelined Eric Dier and youngster Ashley Phillips who was signed from Blackburn earlier in the summer.

There is still doubt over the fitness of creative force James Maddison who was substituted also even though manager Ange Postecoglou admitted it was only precautionary:

He told reporters: “He got a knock on the ankle, we were down one man already. It made sense to make a couple of changes at that point.”

Spurs have enjoyed a brilliant start to life under Ange Postecoglou but it remains to be seen how they react from their first league defeat of the campaign.
