'Significant' - Ange Postecoglou issues two Tottenham injury updates after Chelsea defeat

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has issued an update on the injuries suffered by some of his players during Monday night's defeat to Chelsea.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has issued an injury update after a crushing Monday night in the Premier League. Spurs saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end against London rivals Chelsea, losing 4-1 at home, not helped by two red cards, one for each of Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie.

The first of those sending offs came as early as the 33rd minute, with Chelsea also winning a penalty that Cole Palmer converted. Postecoglou's men held on with 10 men and almost retook the lead on a couple of occasions, but a 55th minute red cad for Udogie led to a Nicolas Jackson hat-trick, with the Chelsea striker scoring all of his goals within the last 15 minutes.

The result means Tottenham stay in second after their game in-hand, one point behind leaders Manchester City, and they now have a number of absentees, a problem that will hit them harder then most due to a lack of depth within their squad.

Along with the suspensions that Romero and Udogie will face, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven also went down to injury, and while the former does not look too serious, the same can't be said of the injury suffered by Van de ven.

"It's too early," said Postecoglou when asked about Maddison. "With Micky it's a pretty significant one." The Spurs boss added on Maddison in an interview with the BBC: "He got a knock on the ankle. We were down one man already. It made sense to make a couple of changes at that point."

Spurs are next in action against Wolves away from home at 12.30pm next Saturday before going into the international break, which will now be seen as perfectly timed by the North London club, given these fresh injury setbacks.
