'The manager': Timo Werner on why he snubbed other Premier League clubs for Tottenham Hotspurs

Tottenham confirmed the signing of German forward Timo Werner on Tuesday night after he completed his medical.

Tottenham forward Timo Werner says his mind was made up the moment he picked up a phone call from Ange Postecoglou as it gave him a sense of being wanted by the club. Manchester United were linked with the former Chelsea striker but he decided to move to north London instead.

With club captain Son Heung-min away for the Asian Cup for the entire of January, Werner will get the chance to get his feet under the table and possibly impress straight away. He told the club's website that speaking with their Australian manager made things easy for him.

Werner said: "A lot of things attracted me here – first of all, the talk with the manager.

"I thought it was a really good talk, he gave me straight away the feeling that I need to join a club, what I want to feel when you talk to a manager and also the tactics and the style, how he wants to play, how he lets the team play. For me, I thought straight away that it fit perfectly.

"Then the stadium, to play there every game is something special and also the team, I think we have some very good players. All of it was very interesting to me."

The German forward has only started two Bundesliga games for RB Leipzig but the move to Tottenham gives him a fresh start to try and force his way back into the Germany team for the Euros.

Spurs also have the option of making the deal permanent for just around £ 15million in the summer.
