Tottenham Hotspur talks with £26 million target 'advancing to final stages' - in blow to Arsenal & Newcastle

Spurs are closing in on their next signing of the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make big waves on the transfer market this month as they up their threat in the Premier League. They've already made a splash by agreeing loan terms for Timo Werner, who is set to spend the second half of the season in north London.

A new update has been quick out of the blocks as well, suggesting Spurs are close to bringing in another exciting new recruit. They have been pushing to sign centre-back Radu Drăgușin and the narrative is looking promising, despite the Romania international only signing for Genoa last summer.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Spurs have 'had new positive contacts' with the Serie A outfit over a potential deal for Drăgușin, which is 'advancing to final stages of the negotiations'. Genoa reportedly want in the region of £26 million to part ways with their recent signing, who has attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League.

"Spurs hope to get the deal done next week as talks continue, it’s all on verbal proposals waiting for the final, official bid" Romano said.

Along with Spurs, other clubs including Arsenal and Newcastle United have registered their interest in bringing Drăgușin to England this year. His agent recently revealed that he has been in London having meetings with 'important teams' and he believes his client will play for a 'top 10' club by next summer.

"I want to say that 100 percent by next summer, Radu will play in a not strong, very strong club! In the top 10 in the world. He wants to be in the Premier League, but know that Milan like him a lot. They must first come to terms with Genoa, that their claims are very high," Florin Manea recently told Romanian outlet Fanatik.

Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League table, one point behind Arsenal and Manchester City, and just six off leaders Liverpool. The January transfer window could well be the difference between this season's top four as the competition continues to heat up.
