He still has some way to go if he is to topple Wayne Rooney’s 53 but he is now closing in on players like Gary Lineker and Jimmy Greaves.
Kane pulled level with Owen despite playing fewer games than the former Liverpool forward.
The 28-year-old’s relentless pursuit of success has seen him average more than a goal every other game, with 40 goals in 63 caps for the Three Lions.
Kane is one of the best strikers in world football and last season beat Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah to the Premier League Golden Boot with 24 goals, the third time he’s won the individual award.
He is also chasing down Jimmy Greaves, Tottenham’s all time top scorer with 266 goals.
The England captain is just 23 goals behind Greaves and is tipped to break it this season following his failed transfer to Manchester City.
His attention though will all be on writing his name in gold ,when England take on Poland today at Warsaw in their 2022 World Cup Qualifier.
He will be hoping to get a goal that will pull him clear of Michael Owen, making him the outright fifth-highest scorer for his country.
That goal will also take him just three behind Jimmy Greaves who scored 44 in 57 caps for England.
