Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen is being linked with a switch to Newcastle United. The Denmark international, who has made 23 caps for his country, still has another two years left on his contract at Selhurst Park.

According to a report by Football Insider, the Toon Army are ‘closely monitoring’ the centre-back ahead of the January transfer window. Eddie Howe’s side are said to hold a ‘long-term interest’ in the player.

Crystal Palace won 1-0 away at Manchester United over the weekend and Andersen scored in the first-half. The Eagles were able to hold on against the Red Devils to secure an impressive three points.

They have now risen up to 9th in the Premier League table. Speaking after the game, the match winner said: “Yeah, it was unbelievable to win at Old Trafford. It’s not easy to come here and after the game on Tuesday we had something to prove.

“The way we fought today, the way we stuck together, the way we played with so much desire and willingness to suffer… It was maybe not our best game in possession, but sometimes you need to fight and run for each other.

“Our press was really, really good today and it was something we spoke about and had to improve. On Tuesday, we sat too far back and they had too much time on the ball, but today I think we succeeded pretty well with that.

“Today is not about me or about any other individual, it’s about the team, because we don’t win here without all 11 players fighting and running. It’s about us being consistent, playing with and without the ball.”

Crystal Palace signed Andersen from Lyon in 2021 after he had a loan spell at fellow London club Fulham. He has since become a key player for the Eagles in the heart of defence and has made 79 appearances in all competitions.
