Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea have already ‘discussed’ Romelu Lukaku with Inter Milan

Chelsea have already taken steps to get ahead of the Romelu Lukaku situation ahead of next season, it is being claimed.

Chelsea have no plans to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues paid around £100million to sign the Belgian striker last summer, but things didn’t work out under Thomas Tuchel.

Lukaku was regularly omitted, and after another disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge, he was sent out on loan for this season.

The deal looks like being a huge failure for Chelsea, with the striker costing so much, only to be loaned back to Inter for a reported fee of £7million rising to £10million, depending on add-ons.

There is fresh interest in the Lukaku situation given Chelsea have now sacked Tuchel, replacing him with Graham Potter.

But according to transfer expert Romano, there is no interest from Chelsea in bringing Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, and there have already been talks over extending the existing loan agreement into next season.

“The situation has not changed about Romelu Lukaku,” Romano told BetVictor. “The Belgian striker is only focused on Inter as things stand, he wants to shine there and there are no contacts to bring him back at Chelsea at the end of the season despite Tuchel leaving the club.

“Lukaku wants Inter as priority, and Chelsea have already discussed with Inter about the possibility of a second-season loan for 2023/2024 in case the Italian club wants to proceed with that agreement for a loan fee around € 10m.

“It’s still too early to say what’s gonna happen, it also depends on Inter and not just on Lukaku; but as of now, Chelsea are not planning to bring Romelu back to the club and he wants Inter as priority for his career even if there’s no buy option clause included in the agreement between the two clubs.”

Lukaku has scored once in three Serie A appearances so far since returning to Inter.
