The German won the Champions League and a number of other trophies during his time at Stamford Bridge, becoming a key player under Thomas Tuchel.

But he is now on to pastures new, hoping to play a key role in Real Madrid’s attempt to defend their La Liga and Champions League titles.

In the meantime, the centre-back has been asked about his time at Chelsea, and he raised a concern he once had over the fans at Stamford Bridge being ‘too quiet’.

Rudiger says he once deliberately made mistakes against Newcastle United to stir up the fans.

“I’ll be honest, I deliberately made a few mistakes because it was just too quiet in the stadium for me during this game,” he told Sport1. “I wanted to wake people up with it.”

Rudiger was also asked about the sacking of Tuchel, a head coach he appeared to have a fine relationship with.

“First they let him get new players, only to then let him go after a few games,” added the centre-back.

“I was surprised at the speed. The day of his release was a sad one for me. I wrote to him afterwards and thanked him again for everything. He was there for everyone, not just me.

“If you look at where we came from and where he took us, he did the impossible. But you know how it is in football. Sometimes you’re the hero, sometimes the bogeyman.”

Rudiger has already made six La Liga appearances for Real Madrid, who sit top of La Liga with six wins from six games, two points ahead of rivals Barcelona.
