Two Arsenal stars up against Liverpool, Newcastle and Brighton players for Premier League award

Arsenal midfielders Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard have both been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month Award for March.

The Gunners won all of their four league matches this month as Mikel Arteta's title charge continues, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three in the process. Saka and Trossard have been key to that success and will compete with four other in-form Premier League stars for the prestigious award.

Neither player has won the Player of the Month accolade before and they will compete against Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister, Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah.

Saka has three goals and two assists to his name this month, with a brace and an assist coming in Sunday's convincing 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, Trossard hasn't scored since mid-February but has been pivotal in the centre-forward role with five assists to his name in March, including a hat-trick of them in the 3-0 win against Fulham.

It's only been a few months since an Arsenal star won the Player of the Month Award, with Martin Odegaard collecting the accolade for November/December. He was the first Gunners player to win it since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in September 2019.

Speaking after last weekend's win against The Eagles, Arteta refused to get carried away when praising homegrown talent Saka, dodging a question as to whether he is the best player in the league.

He said: "I think the team did really well and we obviously have individuals that excel to be at the level we want. But he was again really good today, really affecting the result with his contributions, especially in the opponents’ box, so I’m really happy."

There was also praise from the Spaniard for Trossard after his three assists against Fulham earlier this month.

Arteta said: "When we talk about composure and finding the right colour when it's looking really blurry in the box and many players rush passes, he's the opposite. He got three assists and could have scored two. I think he was really impressive.

"Not only that, he had an injury three days ago which could have taken a week, or another 10 days, but he was really willing to come back early and the doctors and medical staff did a lot of good work to get that.

"It's football intelligence. He's really clever to understand straight away what we want, what's required. He's executed it really well."
