Paul Merson has sent a message to Arsenal amid their impressive start to the season.

Paul Merson has warned his former club they achieved nothing just yet amid their fine start to the season.

The Gunners have been a surprise package this season, taking top spot in the Premier League at this relatively early stage. Mikel Arteta’s men have won 10 of their first 12 games, only losing once, and they are currently two points clear of second place Manchester City, who are most people’s favourites to win the title.

Arsenal fans are already getting excited about a possible title charge, but the Gunners are only a few months removed from their collapse at the end of last season, when they failed to reach the top four. Above all, securing Champions League football is the aim this season.

And Gunners legend Merson has warned his former club not to take their eye off the ball amid their successful start.

“I think there is still a lot to do,” Merson warned on Sky Sports News. “There is a long way to go. We have seen performances in the last couple of weeks, at Southampton and Leeds where - I know they got four points from those two games - but they could have got none. The fixtures have been quite kind in the way they have spread out. We haven’t seen back-to-back hard games.

“You reeled off Chelsea. They have Arsenal at home - flying - Man City in the cup - flying - Newcastle - flying. They haven’t had that, Arsenal. When they played Liverpool, they were struggling. They played Tottenham at home. But they have done what they had to do. We saw Liverpool lost the league by one point last year.

“They didn’t be Man City, they didn’t beat Tottenham and they didn’t beat Chelsea, so they didn’t beat the top four, but they beat all the other teams. That’s what Arsenal have to do. They can’t lose tomorrow (Sunday). I think they shouldn’t lose sight of the top four. Don’t start thinking about the league title at the moment. just keep chipping away. But they were mightily impressive last week against Nottingham Forest.”
