Rio Ferdinand agrees with the supercomputer over Arsenal’s chances this season.

The Gunners have enjoyed a brilliant start to the Premier League season, leading the table by two points after 12 games, with Mikel Arteta’s men holding their nerve so far. Arsenal have only failed to win two of their 12 games so far, losing only once, and there are now regular conversations over their title credentials.

With Liverpool faltering, it looks as though Manchester City are favourites to take the title, especially given the form shown by Erling Haaland early in the season. Tottenham have also been mentioned, but they have faltered early in the season and sit on the periphery at this stage.

Perhaps the bigger question for Arsenal, however, is whether they can end their absence from the top four, having suffered a collapse late last season. The Gunners are a project in the works, and failure to win the Premier League title would be no failure this season. Failure to land a top four spot would be, however, and competition is rife, with Liverpool desperate to get back on track, while Chelsea and Manchester United are vying for position. Newcastle United look like outside contenders early on, too.

But according to Rio Ferdinand, Arsenal will get their Champions League wish. He said on his Vibe with Five podcast: “It will be Arsenal, Man City and Man United. They are the three teams I would put my house on now. And then the fourth one I can’t pick. Newcastle could come in and take it.”

Interestingly, Ferdinand’s prediction is in line with what the latest supercomputer prediction says. According to that prediction, which is updated each week, Man City will come out on top, on course for 88 points. Meanwhile, Arsenal are on course for second, with 77 points, ahead of United with 69 and Liverpool with 67, goal difference ahead of Tottenham.

Chelsea are predicted to finish one point behind, with Newcastle finishing three points off the top four.

Should that play out, there would be some disappointment for Arsenal fans relating to the title, but City are ahead of them in terms of their project and resources. A second-place finish would be a huge achievement for Arteta and his men.
