Arsenal have been backed to snap up a midfielder before Thursday night’s deadline, with claims they could chase Youri Tielemans.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Gunners had sent a £20million bid to Palmeiras in a bid to secure Danilo.

Danilo is a 21-year-old midfielder who has already racked up 69 league senior appearances for Palmeiras.

Goal Brazil made the claim. suggesting Arsenal were taking a proactive approach to make the deal happen.

But a fresh claim from Jorge Nicola, via SportWitness, has suggested there is no offer after all, or at least not yet.

Nicola says he has checked with Palmeiras, and they say they have received no offer for Danilo at this point.

Crucially, Palmeiras are already in the middle of their season, and still competing on all fronts, they are not going to want to lose any of their key stars.

Danilo played for Palmeiras in the Club World Cup last year, and after winning an individual award, he told FIFA: “Before you take to the field it’s all new, seeing people who’ve won the Champions League or World Cup.

“But once you start playing, all that changes and everyone respects their opponents – me respecting them, and them respecting Palmeiras.

“I think with the progress I’m making, if I can continue along the same path, with the same intensity, mindset and intelligence, then I’ll able to compete with them, either as opponents or team-mates. Knowing my quality and potential, I believe I can attain the same level.”

Danilo also has World Cup dreams as Brazil prepare to head to Qatar this winter,

Asked about his chances of being included in Tite’s squad, he responded: “It’s every kid’s dream to play at a World Cup, but you have to leave it up to God.

“Playing for your national team is always difficult, and whoever plays needs to be prepared. I think Tite will be able to call on the best to become world champions. Of course, if needed, I’ll be there.”
