Arsenal make ‘priority’ decision over Youri Tielemans amid Brendan Rodgers’ transfer update
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Youri Tielemans this summer, and a fresh update has emerged.
Arsenal are said to have decided on their list of priorities amid a chase for Youri Tielemans.
The Gunners have already spent more than £100million this summer in a bid to go one better than last season’s failed top four bid.
The Gunners already look good, winning both of their first two games, including a 4-2 win over Leicester City last time out.
Reported target Tielemans played in that game, and that’s despite the Belgian’s future remaining up in the air.
Tielemans has less than a year left on his contract, and he appears to favour a move away from the King Power Stadium, despite not ruling out a stay.
Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for the midfielder, but they appear to be prioritising other business.
At this point, it seems outgoings are the priority for the Gunners.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said on the Que Golazo Podcast: “The midfielder, it has always been Tielemans at the top of the list for Arsenal, but still no official bid to Leicester. I’m told Arsenal are still focused on outgoings.
“The roles they have been following are a midfielder and a winger, but it depends, Arsenal have a very good strategy.”
The update comes after Brendan Rodgers opened up on Tielemans’ current situation amid so much uncertainty.
“It’s not ideal but it’s happened before — players have left here for free before,” he said recently.
“He wouldn’t be the first one, but at this moment in time it’s about keeping an eye on the team and the squad, making sure they are ready.
“The club will be negotiating and talking with the players’ representatives across the squad.
“Thus far, there’s no change in Youri’s situation, there’s no offers. So he’s just continuing to work well and get himself right at this early part of the season.
“Youri is a top international so every game he plays, in actual fact every training session Youri plays, he is trying to be the best player he can.
“There is a lot of speculation about him but he looks to prove a point in every single game he plays.”
