Sergio Reguilon is confident his Spanish team-mate Bryan Gil, who arrived at Tottenham this summer, will light up the Premier League soon.

Gil, 20, signed for Tottenham for an undisclosed fee, with long-serving Erik Lamela going in the opposite direction.

He has since only made four Premier League appearances, mostly from the bench, and a couple of games in the cup as he adapts to life in England.

Reguilon and Gil first crossed paths at Sevilla during the 2019/2020 season and with that experience, the left back is backing Gil to excite Tottenham fans and torment opposing teams soon.

The Tottenham full-back said: “I played with him at Sevilla, and he is a fantastic guy.

“He’s very young though, so he’s going to need time to settle and get used to his new surroundings, but he is a fantastic professional.

“He has so much energy about him as well, and you can see that in the way he performs on the pitch.”

Reguilon is himself still new at the club after joining from Real Madrid last summer, and in the year he’s been at the club Nuno Espirito Santo is the third manager he is working under.

He was signed by Jose Mourinho but ended the season working under Ryan Mason who took over from the Portuguese after he was sacked.

This season, he is working under another Portuguese manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, who started the season with three league wins, before a tough September saw the team lose all three league games including a painful North London derby to Arsenal.

Despite the challenges of September Spurs recovered to win 2-1 against Aston Villa just before the latest international break, and the full-back is hoping the win will be the building block of a special season for everyone at the club.

He added: “I’m hoping we can go forward, do better and achieve.

“My first game was then against Chelsea as I was injured when I arrived. I was recovering with the doctor and the physio.

“It was in the Carabao Cup and we went to penalties.

“We managed to win it though and that made it a fantastic debut and night for me.

“But now we are in a different situation where we have to give more to be a strong team and if we want to make that next step.”

Tottenham will travel to Newcastle for the next league game before Europa Conference League game against Vitesse follows.
