Woman crushed to death under double-decker bus near Oxford Circus

A woman has been crushed to death under a double decker bus in a bustling central London tourist hotspot.

The victim was at the junction of Margaret Street and Regent Street, just north of Oxford Circus, when she was hit at 12.42pm on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene but despite their best efforts to save the woman, she was pronounced dead just after 1pm.

Detectives are working to identify the victim and notify her family about the tragic death.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a bus in collision with a pedestrian on Margaret Street.

“Officers and the London Fire Brigade attended. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.13pm.

“Her family are yet to be informed.”

The driver has not been arrested and is helping police with their enquiries.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.40pm on March 7 to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian on Regent Street.

“We sent an ambulance crew, two cycle responders, three medics in fast response cars and an incident response officer to the scene.

“We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of medics, a person died at the scene."

A Scotland Yard source told LondonWorld police would be launching an appeal.
