Camilo Palacio: Man charged with murder after 23-year-old gunned to death in Wood Green

A man has been charged with murder after 23-year-old Camilo Palacio was fatally shot in Wood Green.

Abass Ahmed, 22, of Tom Dove Place, Tottenham, has been charged with Camilo’s murder.

He is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 5.

Six other people have also been charged as part of the investigation into the fatal shooting which occurred on Sunday, July 24.

  • Devonte Jackson, 27, of Elm Grove, Crouch End, and a 16-year-old boy were charged with arson, assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.
  • Milan Kaleja, 30, of Cliftonville, Margate, has been charged with assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.
  • Mohamed Ahmed Ali, 24, of Great Amwell Lane, Crouch End, has also been charged with assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.
  • They appeared in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on August 3.
  • Kaleja has been released on bail, and Ali has been remanded in custody, both to appear at Harrow Crown Court on August 30
  • Omar Mohamed, 18, of Gospatrick Road, Tottenham, and Anas Ali, 21, of Station Road, New Barnet, were both charged with perverting the course of justice.
  • Both men are due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 4.

A number of other arrests have been made as part of this investigation.

  • A 64-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder in Harlesden on Sunday, July 31, has been released under investigation.
  • While a 25-year-old woman, who was arrested at the same time on suspicion of assisting an offender, has also been released under investigation.
  • An 18-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder at City Airport on Monday, August 1, has been bailed pending further enquiries until late August.
  • And a 17-year-old boy, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in Margate on Sunday, July 31, has been released under investigation.

The murder investigation was launched after police were called at around 9.30pm on Sunday, July 24, to reports of a shooting in High Road, Wood Green.

Firearms officers attended and found the 23-year-old with a gunshot wound.

Police provided first aid until the arrival of paramedics and the air ambulance.

Despite their best efforts, Camilo, from Enfield, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10pm.

His next of kin are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest.
