While many Londoners will be celebrating the Coronation on Saturday, it certainly won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
The pageantry will dominate events, but this is London and there is always something different to do. Sometimes you just have to search for it.

David O’Doherty at the Union Chapel
The all-round lovely man David O’Doherty is topping an amazing bill for Live At the Union Chapel. If you’ve never seen him live, rest assured he is every bit as warm and hilarious on stage as he is on TV. Joining him on the bill are Bridget Christie, Desiree Burch, Daniel Foxx and John Robins - what a bill! Find details at the Union Chapel’s website.
Desertfest
The equally friendly but musically divergent Desertfest takes place at venues in Camden. So if, rather than His Majesty, you would rather the heavy riffs of Church of Misery, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, Graveyard, Kadavar and Boris (not that one), you’re in luck. Find full details at the Desertfest website.
The footie
If there is a location to match the grandeur of Westminster Abbey, it’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (I’m biased). At 3pm the troubled Spurs are hosting Roy Hodgson’s resurgent Crystal Palace. Long live King Harry Kane! If it’s tricky to get tickets, there’s always Match of the Day. Or Liverpool v Brentford is on Sky at 5.30pm.

Not only is Brixton Jamm hosting The Big Disco - Day & Night Bank Holiday Special from 5pm to 4am, but the raucous That’s Drag Bingo will be “more fabulous than ever”, with the sensational Queens, Orange Gina, Ariel Bold and Magik (with a ‘k’).
Giveon
The soul sensation is in the UK for just two dates at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith. The Californian is not in London often and the voice behind Heartbreak Anniversary and ...Chicago Freestyle is not to be missed.
Glen Matlock
Sex Pistols bassist and Rock Hall Of Fame inductee Glen is back at the 100 Club for a neatly timed album launch for Consequences Coming. The punk legend and west Londoner is punk charm personified. God save the Glen.
God Save the Kink
And God Save the Kink, an “anarchic cabaret experiment from the twisted mind of international fetish fiend Letitia Delish” at the Kings’ Head Theatre in Islington. London's “rudest royalist” will guide you on a journey into BDSM and fetish as she examines the obsession and repulsion of British sex habits. What would Charles think?
