TfL latest: Elizabeth line strikes called off after drivers given new pay offer

Aslef members had scheduled a walk out tomorrow and on Saturday as part of a dispute over pay

Planned strikes on London's Elizabeth line have been suspended following a new pay offer from the line's operator, MTR.

Members of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (Aslef) were scheduled to walk out on Thursday, February 27, and Saturday, March 1, in a dispute over pay and working conditions.

These actions have now been called off to allow Aslef's executive committee to consider the revised proposal.

Howard Smith, Transport for London's director of the Elizabeth line, expressed relief at suspending the strikes, stating: "We are pleased that Aslef has suspended its first two dates of planned industrial action on the Elizabeth line after a revised offer has been made.

“This is good news for Londoners, and we encourage Aslef and MTR Elizabeth line to continue working constructively to avoid any future disruption and address concerns."

The initial offer, which the drivers rejected, proposed a 4.5% pay increase, raising the typical salary to £75,726 for a 34-hour, four-day week. The details of the new offer have not been disclosed.

While the immediate strikes have been averted, no announcements have been made regarding the planned industrial actions on Saturday, March 8, and Monday, March 10. Commuters are advised to stay informed about potential disruptions on these dates.

This development comes as MTR prepares to cease its operation of the Elizabeth line on May 24, handing over responsibilities to a consortium comprising Go-Ahead Group, Tokyo Metro, and Sumitomo Corporation.
