West Ham tipped to make January move for Champions League star

West Ham are reportedly interested in a Club Brugge midfielder.

The Hammers have been linked with a number of defenders in recent weeks after they suffered long-term injuries to both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma, however they have now been tipped to sign a Belgian midfielder.

According to Sport Witness, reports in Belgium are claiming that West Ham are likely to make a move for Club Brugge star Hans Vanaken once the January transfer window opens.

The 29-year-old has long been linked with a switch to West Ham, however David Moyes could face competition if Vanaken wins the Belgian Golden Shoe.

The midfielder is one of the favourites for the award and Voetbal24 have claimed that Vanaken will join the Premier League if he is to take home the trophy - with West Ham remanining a ‘serious candidate’.

Who is Hans Vanaken?

Hans Vanaken is thought of as one of the best footballers in Belgium, but has never left his home country.

The 29-year-old joined Club Brugge in 2015 and has since made over 300 appearances - winning four league titles, the Belgian Super Cup, as well as being crowned Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year twice and claiming the Belgian Golden Shoe on two occasions.

Despite playing in midfield, Vanaken has been a prolific goalscorer for Club Brugge and has scored nine or more league goals every season since his arrival at the club.

He has scored against Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig in the Champions League this season.

Vanaken has showcased his talents in Belgium for his whole career but many believe it is time for him to enjoy a stint elsewhere before he nears retirement.
