West Ham: Four deals David Moyes needs to make this January transfer window

West Ham held off a late fight from Crystal Palace to seal three points and keep their hopes of a top four finish alive.

The Hammers are hoping to make a strong push into the Champions League places during the second half of the season.

But injuries and Covid - with players increasingly having to self isolate at the last minute - mean the Irons boss David Moyes will have to keep an eye on the winter transfer window.

Defender Angelo Ogbonna will need a miracle to return to the pitch this season, while his central defensive partner Kurt Zuma is also on the treatment table.

Said Benrahma who gave the assist for Antonio to open the scoring against Crystal Palace is off to the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving the attack short of men.

Aaron Cresswell, the underrated left back, has also been out with an injury.

Nathan Ake

This season the Dutch international is enjoying more games compared to last season, but he is still way below Dias, Laporte and Stones in Manchester City’s pecking order.

So a move to West Ham, who were also interested in him before he joined City, could be an interesting proposition.

There is a huge demand for left sided central defenders, and game time and living in London could turn Ake’s head.

With the World Cup approaching quickly, three league appearances is not exactly what you want to try and break into the Netherlands’ starting eleven.

West Ham are going places at the moment, and this will be a chance for him to make a name for himself in a team that is being built to last.

Eddie Nketiah

West Ham’s decision not to sign a striker in the summer is beginning to look like a mistake after the goals have dried up for Michail Antonio.

Moyes is aware that to continue to excel in Europe and the league he will have to find an alternative to the Jamaican hitman.

The club have discussed a potential January move for Eddie Nketiah, who is almost certainly leaving Arsenal this summer because of playing time.

Arsenal are playing hard ball as they want to keep the young English striker, but West Ham have the exact thing he is looking for - game time in a league that gives him a chance to break into the England squad.

Eric Bailly

Another player who has been talked about at West Ham has been Manchester United’s Eric Bailly.

He fits into the calibre of defenders Moyes wants to have at the club, and he has so much Premier League experience to go along with it.

The player himself is finding game time hard to come by at United and will be delighted with a chance to play regularly.

The only standing issue is his participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations for his country.

Nathaniel Phillips

The Liverpool centre back played 17 league games last season but is yet to get a a minute in the Premier League this season partly to the return from injury of Van Dijk and the signing of Ibrahima Konaté.

The young English defender will jump at the opportunity to move to side challenging for European football and given his limited playing time at Anfield, a career development will be music to his ears.

Moyes is keeping an eye on the return of Zouma and will delve in the market at the slightest sign of a delay in recovering.
