West Ham will still believe they can turn this tie around in Germany and reach the Europa League final

West Ham United were left to rue missed chances as Eintracht Frankfurt head back to Germany with the advantage going into the second leg.

The Bundesliga outfit triumphed 2-1 at the London Stadium in a pulsating and physical Europa League semi final first leg.

Ansgar Knauff gave Eintracht the lead in just the second minute silencing the London Stadium.

Michail Antonio equalised for the Hammers before half time, and David Moyes’ side had several other chances with Jarrod Bowen hitting the post when one on one.

However in the second half Frankfurt showed the finishing ability which saw them see off Barcelona in the quarter final, with Daichi Kamada placing a cool finish beyond Alphonse Areola.

The Hammers built the pressure towards the end of the match but couldn’t find the net.

That will give them confidence going into the second leg in Germany.

The match was an incredible occasion, with the West Ham fans urging their side on throughout.

And 3,000 Eintracht Frankfurt fans were in the London Stadium, creating a buzzing atmosphere for the semi final.
