Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell scored either side of Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser to continue the Eagles’ unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign and pile more misery on the Hammers.

Potter’s side have lost five of their six games in all competitions this season, with four of those defeats coming in the Premier League. They sit second from bottom in the table, kept off 20th spot by Wolves who have lost all five of their matches so far. Wolves have beaten West Ham this campaign, as they knocked the Irons out of the Carabao Cup last month.

After the loss to Palace, it was reported that Potter’s position was under significant scrutiny from within the club. West Ham had an inconsistent first six months under Potter but the ex-Chelsea boss was given some grace after inheriting the squad midway through the season.

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Graham Potter future

Potter’s only win of the campaign has been against Nottingham Forest, as the Hammers won 3-0 at the City Ground in late August. However, a 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur followed by the defeat to Palace has only put the pressure back on Potter’s shoulders.

Asked in his latest Give Me Sport newsletter about the latest on Potter’s future - transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “Internal talks are taking place with eventual replacements being assessed. Decision could follow soon.”

It has previously been reported that the replacements West Ham are looking at are former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espírito Santo and Slaven Bilic. West Ham fans protested against the club’s owners ahead of the game on Saturday with a real sense of ill feeling currently surrounding the club.

Graham Potter feels for West Ham supporters

Speaking after the loss to Palace, Potter said: “It’s a tough one for the team, it’s a tough one for the supporters, who I thought were brilliant with us today, to be honest. I thought the way they pulled with the team in the second half was fantastic. I feel for them because it’s tough.

“The scoreline is what it is and we’re disappointed with that of course. I thought we started the game quite well, but then struggled to get some pressure and then they found spaces and getting their pocket players in, and five against four in the last line destabilised us a little bit.

“But we tried to change it and we did at half-time, it affected it a little bit and we were a lot better. I thought the first part of the second half was really positive.

“It’s just disappointing that we conceded and we probably just huffed and puffed a little bit at that point.”
