The Hammers have endured a slow start to the Premier League season with few signs of improvement since Potter took over from Julen Lopetegui in January. West Ham make the trip to unbeaten Crystal Palace this weekend and a fourth defeat of the season could spell trouble for Potter.

Several managers have been touted as potential replacements at West Ham. Jose Mourinho had been linked but has since taken charge of Benfica with former Hammers boss Slaven Bilic also named as a frontrunner.

West Ham hold talks with Nuno Espirito Santo

talkSPORT now claim that West Ham have held talks with Nuno Espirito Santo to see whether he would be prepared to come into the fold. The 51-year-old was sacked from the City Ground earlier this month after a fallout with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno had led Forest to Europa League qualification for the first time in 29 years last season and would arrive at West Ham with impressive Premier League experience thanks to stints at Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur.

West Ham have maintained their backing of Potter despite a recent vote of no confidence from the club’s Fan Advisory Board. A club statement followed after a meeting with supporters which maintained the support of the current manager.

Potter has won just six of his 24 matches in charge of the side, losing 13. West Ham sit 18th in the Premier League table at this early stage of the season.

Graham Potter acknowledges criticism

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Crystal Palace, Potter said: “At every football club, if you don’t win as much as you’d like, there’s always noise, there’s always pressure, there’s always criticism, and that’s fair, that’s the world we’re in.

“Everybody wants West Ham to do well. The fans do, the players do, me and my staff do, the Board do. We’re all on the same page in terms of how much we love the Club and how much we want the Club to do well, and we’re all hurting the same. So, we have to try to, and we will stick together. We will, because that’s part of this Club as well. It’s part of something really special about this Club.

“At the same time, you have to hear when there’s criticism and when there’s feedback. You have to hear that as well and listen to that and think about how you can improve.”
