Premier League great Ian Wright says Newcastle United have got a great striker in Alexander Isak who marked his Premier League debut with a goal at Anfield.

The Swedish forward joined Newcastle United for a record fee of £63m and wasted little time in showing his skill with a well taken goal at Anfield.

For large parts of the game at Anfield, his goal looked like it would be the winner - but youngster Fábio Carvalho scored with the virtually the last kick of the game after Roberto Firmino had levelled up for the hosts.

Isak had a great opportunity to increase his tally against Crystal Palace over the weekend but just undercooked his effort.

Ian Wright who is regarded as one of the Premier League’s great strikers says he’s seen enough of the former Real Sociedad forward to know he will be a success in the Premier League.

He told the Kelly and Wright show: “I like Isak at Newcastle. Another 6ft 4in striker. When you see the way he scored his first goal.

“It was unfortunate with his next chance [against Palace] when he tried to dink it.

“I just think at Newcastle, the way he plays, he can play as the number nine. The counter-attacking form. He presses. He has great skill.

”He could be a really, really good signing. I think he’s going to be a very good signing.”

The Hammers have had a slow start to the Premier League season but were quite unlucky not to pick up a point against Chelsea over the weekend.

They take on FCSB SA in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night before hosting Newcastle at the weekend.
