Tottenham confirm injury blow to influential midfielder that could damage top four ambitions

Tottenham have been dealt a huge injury blow just days before their must-win Premier League game against Leicester.

The 21-year-old is a product of the Spurs academy and broke into the first team properly this season, playing a key role for both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

There had been faint hopes that the midfielder might not need surgery last month, but continual swelling has meant both the club and player decided to repair the damage by undergoing surgery.

A club statement read: “We can confirm that Oliver Skipp has undergone surgery in America this morning (Tuesday April 26) to repair a pubis injury and will be out for the remainder of the season.

“The academy graduate, 21, will now undergo a period of recovery and is expected to return to training for the pre-season period.”

After spending last season out on loan at Norwich and helping them gain promotion to the Premier League, Skipp played in 45 Championship games as Daniel Farke’s side stormed the second division.

Skipp has endeared himself to the Tottenham fans with his all-out energetic displays at the beginning the season.

A proud member of the Tottenham academy, Skipp will hope that his new five-year deal gives him the peace of mind to recover and join the teammates for pre-season in the summer.
