Tottenham could be without 12 players for their Europa League game against Elfsborg on Thursday.

Tottenham look ahead to a game in the Europa League this week as they aim to bounce back from their recent poor form, which has put Ange Postecoglou under pressure.

Spurs lost 2-1 to Leicester City in their last game, despite going 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Richarlison after 33 minutes. They now sit 15th in the Premier League table, eight points above the relegation zone.

In the Europa League, they are sixth, and currently in the automatic qualification spots for the round of 16. However, with one game to go, their place in the top eight isn’t all but confirmed. If they beat Swedish side Elfsborg on Thursday, they will guarantee a place in the round of 16.

However, they could miss up to 12 players for the game, which could create some tough line-up decisions for Postecoglou, who remains under a lot of pressure.

Elfsborg injury news

The Swedish side could be without two players for their trip to North London on Thursday night. Attacking midfielder Simon Olsson could be out for the game, as he is dealing with an illness which means he may not be ready for Thursday night, should he not recover in time.

Whereas, they could also be missing 32-year-old striker Per Frick, who has been dealing with an injury that he picked up in November. It is not yet clear as to whether he will be fit to return for the Swedish side.

Elfsborg beat Ligue 1 side Nice 1-0 in last week’s round of Europa League fixtures. They sit 20th in the table, two points above 25th-placed Porto. Twente and Braga in 26th and 27th sit three points behind them. It means they have plenty left to play for when they visit North London this week. A loss or draw will see them relying on results from elsewhere to get them over the line while a win would guarantee a spot in the top 24 and a play-off fixture.

Tottenham injury news

Firstly, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario remains out injured with an ankle fracture that he suffered in their 4-0 Premier League win against Manchester City in November. He will be out until late February at the earliest.

Striker Dominic Solanke also remains out for an extended period, as he is dealing with a knee injury that he suffered earlier in January. He looks set to be out until March, with Postecoglou saying: “With Dom, the information now is around the six-week mark. No surgery, but we're looking at around six weeks.”

Wilson Odobert is still recovering from surgery to his hamstring that he underwent in November, there is no return date for him yet. Defender Destiny Udogie is also set to miss the Elfsborg game. He is recovering from a hamstring injury which should keep him out for at least two more weeks.

The game against Elfsborg will also come too soon for attackers Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner, who are dealing with calf, and hamstring injuries respectively. They are both expected to be out until mid-February, with Werner looking marginally closer to a return.

In terms of players in doubt for Spurs, defender Djed Spence picked up a knock during Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat against Everton, which he is still recovering from. Furthermore, James Maddison is also a doubt, as he is sore from their last Europa League game against Hoffenheim.

Defender pair Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven have both been on similar timelines with hamstring injuries. They could return on Thursday. Postecoglou said: “[Romero] and Micky are the next cabs off the rank in terms of the long-term ones. They've still got a bit to do in terms of getting some training into them with the team. Micky's not too far away.”

Richarlison is also a doubt for the game against Elfsborg after he picked up a minor injury to his groin during the defeat against Leicester at the weekend. Pape Sarr will likely be able to return after he felt sore after the game on Sunday.
