Ange Postecoglou sent fresh sack message as 'trouble' Tottenham claim made
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is under intense scrutiny as Tottenham’s season to forget continues to worsen.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou may be hanging by a thread after another costly defeat over the weekend. Spurs gave up a lead to lose against relegation-battling Leicester City, now sitting 15th in the table and eight points above the bottom three.
There has been talk of Postecoglou getting the sack for weeks, while discontent is growing rapidly among the fans, but while injuries have undoubtedly curtailed Tottenham’s season, it seems that they are also proving to be a saviour of sorts for the Australian boss, who has something to fall back on.
In terms of any Premier League achievements this season, Tottenham’s season is surely over, but they do still have a chance in the cup competitions, and particularly the Carabao Cup. Spurs currently lead Liverpool heading into the second leg in February, and a former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster believes it may be the hope of winning the Carabao Cup this is keeping Postecoglou in the job.
He said on his podcast: “I Think the reason why he hasn’t been sacked already, or the reason why they won’t sack him is imminently is because they’ve got the second leg of the League cup against Liverpool. They are 1-0 up from the first leg, and I just think if they sacked him now, then it is just absolute carnage.
“So, going into that game is going to be trouble, and I think Spurs are hanging their hat that they probably, possible, might win a trophy.”
What Postecoglou has said
Speaking after the Leicester game, Postecoglou was unsure of his future, saying: "When you are a manager of a football club, you can feel vulnerable and isolated, but I don't feel that.
"The players are giving everything. I focus on that and try and support the players. It hurts. It hurts a lot. The players gave everything again. We are going to look at a lot of things, but in terms of effort, I can't ask any more."
He added: "It doesn't come into my consciousness trying to convince people. I've been around long enough that people will judge where we are at the moment, which hasn't been good enough. In the next 10 days, we should get some significant players back. We have fantastic opportunities to make an impact – I'm sure that will happen."
