Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been in contact with Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as the club step up their search for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham had been primed to land Brentford’s David Raya but the Lilywhites look to have been put off by the Bees’ resolve to get £40million for the Spanish goalkeeper despite his having just one year left on his contract.

Personal terms have never been an issue with Raya, as they have not been for Vicario, but Spurs who are determined to stick to their plan this summer and have moved on to the next target, the highly-rated Guglielmo Vicario.

According to Italian publication Carciomecato, Tottenham will present a written offer to Empoli in the coming hours with the whole deal reported to be around £17.2m.

Guglielmo - a 26-year-old Italian - has made 71 appearances for Empoli since joining from Cagliari in 2021, initially on loan. Last season he made 31 appearances and helped Empoli to a 14th-place finish in the league.

Sources say there are easily attainable add-ons in the deal but that Tottenham are happy with what they have seen of the goalkeeper and will bring him to north London.
