His assistant Cristian Stellini has stepped in to help with both coaching and media duties- but Antonio Conte is already sending instructions from his recovery bed as he looks to return to work as soon as possible.

The Italian manager posted a message on Instagram assuring fans that he was already working his way back to the touchline and thanks everyone who send well wishes his way.

“Thank you for your lovely messages, my surgery has gone well and I’m already feeling better.

“Now’s time to recover, I can’t wait to get back on the field with the team.”

According to the Public Health England, it takes around two weeks for anyone to return to work after going surgery but Antonio Conte knows Spurs face a tough month with games against United and AC Milan to come later this month, so it will be interesting to see how long he stays out before returning to work.

Ahead of the game against Manchester new signing Pedro Porro could start after completing his move from Sporting to the Lilywhites- but Spurs assistant manager left everyone guessing when asked if he was willing to throw him in straight away.

He said: “He plays in a similar system we play and he is available. We can use him in two days.

“We have another training session, he can improve but he is a great player, he’s good technically and we were impressed by his performance against us.”
