Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Villarreal left-back Pervis Estupinan as they look to make a double signing from the Spanish club.

Reports in Spain have suggested Spurs were already involved in talks to sign centre-back Pau Torres from the Champions League semi-finals in a move that would see Giovani Lo Celso move in the opposite direction.

But now Spanish outlet Marca have suggested another Villarreal player could move to North London as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his defensive ranks.

Ecuador international Estupinan started his career in his home country with LDU Quito before moving into Europe for the first time with Watford.

However, the left-back failed to make an appearance for the Hornets and spent time out on loan with Spanish trio Granada, Almeria and Osasuna between 2016 and 2020.

The defender earned himself a permanent move to La Liga with Villarreal paying around £15million for his services and he has gone on to impress during his time at Estadio de la Cerámica.

A number of clubs have been linked with a move for Estupinan over the last 12 months with West Ham United and Newcastle United both believed to have sent scouts to watch him in action.

However, Marca have reported it is Spurs that have held discussions over a move and both clubs and the player’s agents are in talks over the deal.

The report suggests Villarreal need to secure ‘two or three powerful sales’ to balance a gap in their budget caused by their failure to secure a place in next season’s Champions League and Europa League.

Dutch international forward Arnaut Danjuma, defender Torres and Estupinan are said to be the main options available to bring in funds - although the latter still has five years left on the contract he signed when he joined from Watford in 2020.
